THE GOFIO MILLS OF GRAN CANARIA

There were many gofio mills in Gran Canaria up until only a few decades ago. These mills, through blood, sweat, and fire, produced different types of gofio all over the island. Nowadays, there are several that continue to produce this wonderful product of the island's gastronomy, but only a few of them are open to the public.

 

A visit to these mills will take you back in time to a time when gofio was the basis of the island's diet and on which the socio-economic model of the entire population was based. Getting to know the gastronomy of the territory you are travelling to is a fundamental part of understanding the culture you are immersing yourself in.
